This week we welcome David to the CBFC Artist Spotlight!
Q. Where are you from?
A. I’m from Euless, TX. I grew up in Alrington and Irivng but have lived in Euless for almost 10 years now.
Q. How long have you been drawing?
A. I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember. I used to draw roses for my mom when I was younger because I couldn’t afford to buy her real ones so I would draw roses for hours until I got them perfect. That’s been my goal with every drawing I’ve done ever since.
Q. What materials do prefer to do your art with?
A. I generally used Charcoal, Graphite, Ink, Pastel, Chalk and Opaque Paint with most of my drawings but Charcoal is my go to.
Q. Character you love to draw?
A. I love drawing Ghost Rider and Spawn. I grew up with those characters as a kid so everytime I draw them I always put in a little more effort and take risks to take each character to the next level. My father and I collected McFarlane Toys growing up so Spawn was big part of my life and seeing Ghost Rider all decked out in flames riding a cool motorcycle was just so fascinating to me.
Q. What Character would you want to draw that you haven’t drawn yet?
A. There are a few characters that I haven’t drawn yet but just to name a few… Darkseid, Superman, Doomsday, Galactus, Silver Surfer and Hercules.
Q. What artist inspires you the most and why?
A. Todd McFarlane. Hands down. His work was so impactful and inspiring to me. I know we use two different mediums but his work had all these dark and ominous tones and moments. Very much ahead his time as an artist and really laid the foundation for myself and a lot of other up and coming artists. I pray one day my work is as impactful as his.
Q. What was your first published work?
A. I recently drew my first ever comic book cover for 4 Leaf Comics that releases in March 2020. My cover is a Variant Cover for Issue #04 of The Forgotten Isle. The cover I drew pays homage to The Walking Dead #100.
Q. Which artist would you love to do a collaboration piece with?
A. It would be a dream come true to draw alongside Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee, Peter Laird & Kevin Eastman, Mattina, Purillo, Alan Quah (dream came true recently), Frank Miller, Greg Capullo and Carla Cohen. There’s still plenty of talented artist that I would love to work with someday but I’m working extremely hard everyday in hopes of making these dreams a reality.
Big thanks to David for taking the time to answer a few of our questions! Be sure to give her a follow!
