This week, we welcome Chris Schmidt to the CBFC Artist Spotlight!
Q. Where are you from?
A. A suburb of Cleveland, OH
Q. How long you’ve been drawing?
A. I haven’t stopped since I was about 2 years old. I used to love to draw my G.I.Joe figures in battles, make up new superheroes, and draw funny pictures of people I knew or saw somewhere.
Q. What materials do you prefer to do your art with?
A. My favorite is probably pen and ink but lately I have really enjoyed digital drawing on my iPad and doing full on traditional paintings in gouache acrylic.
Q. Character you love to draw?
A. I have probably drawn Wolverine the most out of any character, however I love the challenge of designing new characters or drawing a character I have never done before.
Q. Character that you want to draw that you haven’t drawn yet?
A. Oh, man. I don’t know if I really know until I’m asked to draw it. I’ve drawn so many well-know and obscure characters it is hard to say.
Q. What artist inspires you the most and why?
A. My favorite modern comic book artist is Sean Gordon Murphy. I love his style and the expression that goes into his work. There are plenty of new or lesser known artists I enjoy seeing new stuff from too.
Q. What was your first published work?
A. I did some refurbishing of Marvel art years ago, and the first comic I did was “Steve Jobs: Co-founder of Apple” for Bluewater.
Q. Which artist would you love to do a collaboration piece with?
A. I’m open to anything. Sean Murphy would be a life goal. But otherwise anyone who wants to collab just message me! Thanks!
Thank Chris Schmidt for taking the time to answer a few of our questions! Be sure to give him follow!
