This week we welcome Jay Manchand to the CBFC Artist Spotlight!

Q. Where are you from?

A. I’m from the UK.

Q. How long you’ve been drawing?

A. I’ve always enjoyed making art for as long as I can remember. I began drawing & painting professionally 9 years ago, I put myself through art school for my bachelors & masters fine art degrees.

Q. What materials do prefer to do your art with?

A. Though I thoroughly enjoy working with coloured pencils & acrylic gouache, my favorite medium has to be oil paints. I feel like I can achieve a much closer level of realism with them.

Q. Character you love to draw?

A. I love painting & drawing Boba Fett and other Mandalorians, but there’s a childhood nostalgia for me when it comes to painting the background aliens from Jabba’s Palace & the Mos Eisley Cantina.

Q. Character that you want to draw that you haven’t drawn yet?

A. I’d love to explore more legends characters. I’m also hoping to produce some characters from The Bad Batch soon too.

Q. What artist inspires you the most and why?

A. Ralph McQuarrie is a huge inspiration to me, he’s hugely responsible for the way Star Wars looks and feels, the characters & places we know and love today.

Q. What was your first published work?

A. My first official artwork for Star Wars was the Rogue One Series 2 trading card set for Topps, for this I produced over 100 hand drawn sketch cards based on the movie.

Q. Which artist would you love to do a collaboration piece with?

A. Though my work tends to be non-collaborative, I have worked alongside other sketch card artists on non-profit charity events and would gladly do so again.

Big thanks Jay Manchand taking the time to answer a few of our questions! Be sure to give him a follow!

Don’t forget to check back next week for our next Artist Spotlight! If you’re an artist and are looking to be featured on our page please hit me up here. I’d love to hear from you.
