Welcome Albert Nguyen to our Artist Spotlight of the week!
Q. Where are you from?
A. I grew up in the twin cities in Minnesota but I’ve lived in the California Bay area for the past 15 years. I found out this year I live like 10 min from comic fiend, rob.is.rob
Q. How long have you been drawing?
A. I’ve been drawing my whole life! I took art a lot more seriously when I was 22 and went to grad school in San Francisco to get my masters in illustration. I’m 36 now.
Q. What materials do prefer to do your art with?
A. I love inking with a pentel brushpen and coloring with copic markers. When I make prints I do digital colors with Photoshop but markers are more fun!
Q. Character you love to draw?
A. I like drawing characters that have interesting details. I’m not as good at drawing spandex superheroes. Boba Fett is a favorite to draw for sure.
Q. What Character would you want to draw that you haven’t drawn yet?
A. Batman who laughs is a really interesting design that I haven’t had the chance to draw yet
Q. What artist inspires you the most and why?
A. I grew up in the 80s and 90s so I still love Jim Lee! More recently really into Daniel Warren Johnson. I love a mix of details and energy
Q. What was your first published work?
A.About 12 years ago I was doing a lot of art for a ridiculous online game called hobowars. Superhero and star wars related I’ve contributed a bunch of sketch cards to upper deck card sets and one star wars set for Topps.
Q. Which artist would you love to do a collaboration piece with?
A. I’m not sure about collaboration. I think mostly I’m in a good place enjoying learning a lot. I feel very fortunate to work and learn from my good friends livio Ramondelli, Eddie Nunez and Joel Gomez

I really dig the art. That deadpool over the walking dead is super creative. You could do some really cool covers adding your own touch.
