This week we welcome Jeffrey to the CBFC Artist Spotlight!

Q. Where are you from?

A. I am from the Midwest, Missouri is home!

Q. How long you’ve been drawing?

A. I started drawing after I read my first book ever. It was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #7 and I was four years old.

Q. What materials do prefer to do your art with?

A. I have spent the longest time with pencils and paper, but I love inking! I have also painted in acrylics, colored with Copic markers and digitally as well! But nowadays it’s mostly pencils and inks on boards!

Q. Character you love to draw?

A. Comic book superhero characters! I love RIPCLAW and PITT, I love Archangel and Venom, I love Mr. Freeze and Black Adam, I love the Turtles, GI JOE and Transformers! I just love drawing these characters that are larger than life!  I love them all!!

Q. Character that you want to draw that you haven’t drawn yet?

A. I have drawn everyday for the last 36 years so it’s tough to think of a character that I wanted to draw but haven’t yet! I usually just draw the character if I want to!! Ha! But if I could pick one I would say that I would love to draw Chainsaw Man!! I just learned about the anime and his design looks wicked!! Now if you’re asking me what character would I like to draw for a published book that I haven’t yet, oh that easy!! TMNT, Darkhawk, Archangel, Venom , Mr. Freeze, The Darkness! The list goes on and on!

Q. What artist inspires you the most and why?

A. Oh my goodness, the list of artists that inspire me is sooooooooo long! Marc Silvestri, David Finch, Arthur Adam’s, Ryan Ottley, Frank Cho, Mike Mignola, Terry Dodson, Jim Lee, Frank Frazetta, Joe Quesada, Mark Bagley, Rick Leonardi, Mike Manley, Todd Nauck, Kenneth Rocafort, Eric Basaluda, Michael Turner, Richard Friend, Danny Miki, Scott Williams, Alex Sinclair, Jonathan Glapion, Greg Capullo, Todd MacFarlane and so many many more!! And why?Because there are aspects of all of their work that fascinate and mystify me! And that makes me want to study them and learn from them! They are masters! They are the giants that came before me!

Q. What was your first published work?

A. My first published work were pin-up one shot illustrations for an article that centered around asking an interesting question. The writer, Ethan Sacks asked Hollywood directors who had never directed a comic movie, “What comic movie would you make if you could?” I illustrated those movie ideas! It was a blast! It was published in the Australian pop culture magazine called Film Ink! So not only was I published, but I was published internationally as well! It was amazing!!

Q. Which artist would you love to do a collaboration piece with?

A. Artist I would love to collaborate with are all of those incredible artist I mentioned earlier! I really would! It would be an honor! But if I could put together a dream team of artist to work on a published work with? I’d be the penciller, Richard Friend would ink the pages and Alex Sinclair would color them!

Thank Jeffrey for taking the time to answer a few of our questions! Be sure to give him follow!
