This week we welcome Johnny to the CBFC Artist Spotlight!

Q. Where are you from?

A. Lake Charles, La

X-23

Q. How long have you been drawing?

A. As far back as I can remember. One of my oldest memories is, before I was even in kindergarten, laying the floor in the living room doodling.

Harley Quinn, poison ivy and Cat women

Q. What materials do prefer to do your art with?

A. I try to work equally with Copics, Watercolor and digitally. If something is going to be printed, I usually go digital with it to make sure that all the colors and everything are consistent. But, if I’m doing commissions or something for fun, it’s usually a traditional route.

Q. Character you love to draw?

A. One of my favorite characters to draw is The Destroyer from my various books. But, my favorite characters from other creators to do are Spider-Man or Alucard from Hellsing. Both of which are great. Spidey you can do any pose you can imagine and it’s okay! Which is a TON of fun! And with Alucard.. I just love drawing gore. So much fun!

Q. What Character would you want to draw that you haven’t drawn yet?

A. Character that you want to draw that you havnt drawn yet?
A.Characters I would love to draw would definitely be different MS’ from Gundam. I love the different series, but I can’t do mechs. Which sucks for me because it’s one of my favorite genres of anime to watch!

Q. What artist inspires you the most and why?

A. There’s 3 artist that I just adore and follow everything they do. The first is Tradd Moore. His art is just nuts! It’s so dynamic and so clean! I love how he does gore! I constantly come back to Luther Strodefor inspiration. Next is Kouta Hirano of Hellsing and Drifters fame. Both of which are beyond amazing. Kouta Hirano was one of the most influential artist in my life. The first volume of Hellsing was the first manga I’ve read. I didn’t even realize you could do that kind of thing when I was younger. I was a Marvel kid growing up. So excessive violence and gore wasn’t really found in Marvel books in the 90s. So when I came across Hellsing, it was like entering a whole new world. And finally, Junji Ito. One of the greatest, in my opinion, horror artists of all time. I love his works. If you like f’d up horror. That’s your man. I love it!

Q. What was your first published work?

A. My first published work was for an old, I believe long dead, web comic publisher called Darkbrain comics. The advance I got from doing that work is what I used to get my Cintiq. It was long out dated when I bought it 10+ years ago.. But, that thing is a work horse and I still love it and treat it as my best friend!

Q. Which artist would you love to do a collaboration piece with?

A. Which artist would you love to do a collaboration piece with?
A.I would LOVE to do a collab with Edwin Huang and Jeffrey ” Chamba ” Cruz. I think my style would compliment there’s and would make an awesome final product.

Big thanks to Johnny for taking the time to answer a few of our questions! Be sure to give him a follow!
