This week we welcome Kyle Robert Willis to the Artist Spotlight!
Q. Where are you from?
A. I was born in Camden New Jersey but grew up in Homestead Florida.
Q. How long have you been drawing?
A. I’ve been drawing since I was five years old and came across a folder my mother had kept of my older brother Daren’s illustrations from when he was younger.
Q. What materials do prefer to do your art with?
A. The materials I use for creating vary wildly from year to year I illustrate on Bristol, sometimes I tear up comic books plaster them onto a canvas before painting over them and sometimes I repurpose action figures and paint them as other characters.
Q. Character you love to draw?
A. I love to draw Venom and sinister characters like the Joker
Q. What Character would you want to draw that you haven’t drawn yet?
A. Character that I want to draw more of is my character Pouches who I will debut in my upcoming comic!
Q. What artist inspires you the most and why?
A. I’m inspired by so many artists it’s really hard to just choose one. If I had to boil it down to one I would say Frank Frazetta continues to inspire me the most.
Q. What was your first published work?
A. My first published work was a ballpoint pen illustration of Biggie Smalls that was printed in Spin Magazine in October of 2008.
Q. Which artist would you love to do a collaboration piece with?
A. I want to collaborate with so many artists I can name a few, I’d love to do something with Kevin Joseph, the author of the incredible indie comic book “Tart”, I would love to illustrate for authors like Armand Rosamilia. I would love to do some more video if I process and use music by bands that I love like Dissever for the soundtrack.
Thanks Kyle for taking the time to answer a few of our questions! Be sure to give him a follow!
