This week we welcome Monekers to the CBFC Artist Spotlight!
Q. Where are you from?
A. I am from Malaga, a city in southern Spain.
Q. How long you’ve been drawing?
A. I have been drawing since I was a child, but I have been professionally dedicated to it for about 10 years, mainly designing for t-shirts.
Q. What materials do prefer to do your art with?
A. For my work I usually use digital media, graphic tablets and software such as photoshop or illustrator, although I admit that I prefer traditional drawing, pencils and paper.
Q. Character do you love to draw?
A. Mainly I like to draw things that I like from popular culture, characters from comics and science fiction movies are my favorites.
Q. Character that you want to draw that you haven’t drawn yet?
A. Moon Knight, I did not know this character very well and I must admit that as a result of the new tv show I have become very interested in the character. I love the ancient Egypt theme.
Q. What artist inspires you the most and why?
A. I have always really liked Japanese art and my designs are clearly inspired by pictorial styles such as sumi-e or ukiyo-e. Qi Baishi, Wu Zhen, Katsushika Hokusai, Hiroshi Yoshida… are some examples.
I also really like impressionism.
Q. What was your first published work?
A. My first published design was a sumi-e style illustration of Darth Vader, “Star Warrior sumi-e”. It was published in 2013.
Q. Which artist would you love to do a collaboration piece with?
A. I’m not a big fan of doing collaborations, although I’ve done some in the past con Ddjvigo o Saqman.
