This week, we welcome Chris Ring to the CBFC Artist Spotlight!

Q. Where are you from?

A. I grew up in New Jersey but now I work from Central Pennsylvania.

Q. How long you’ve been drawing?

A. I started at about 5 years old but didn’t really get serious about drawing until I was about 19.

Q. What materials do you prefer to do your art with?

A. I still prefer to work with traditional materials even though I do own a wacom tablet. I use a brush, inks, gouache, pens, markers and colored pencil depending on the look I’m going for.

Q. Character you love to draw?

A. I can’t say I really have a preference anymore because I love it when clients ask me to draw obscure stuff or characters I’ve never heard of.

Q. Character that you want to draw that you haven’t drawn yet?

A. While I’ll never tire of drawing comic characters, there are some gaming characters I’d like to take a stab at. So there’s a bunch.

Q. What artist inspires you the most and why?

A. I’m really inspired by everyone but I can learn a lot from artists like Bill Sienkiewicz, whose work is full of kinetic energy, I really admire that.

Q. What was your first published work?

A. The “CarbonKnight” mini series back in 1995. Occasionally I get asked if I’ll ever revisit the character and I would like to . . . someday.

Q. Which artist would you love to do a collaboration piece with?

A. I was honored to do a giant Jam Piece for the Hershey Comic Con this past year with some heavy hitters. Not only did I get to draw a character but I colored the entire piece. In the future I would really like to collaborate with my daughters, they are both artists in NYC. We’ve done a group show together but haven’t collaborated on a project yet.

Thank Chris Ring for taking the time to answer a few of our questions! Be sure to give him follow!

-Chris
